Cumberland House is a town with a proud history. This is the oldest community in Saskatchewan . Honouring their Cree and Métis heritage, many of the townspeople are descendants of the voyageurs, trappers, clergy and early settlers to the area. But, this is also a thriving modern community of over 2000 people who recognize that their traditions and heritage are of principal importance. Cree is the first language of the area. Cumberland House is well-known to hunters and fishers from across North America, offering lush habitats for moose, deer, bear, beaver, muskrat and ducks. Provincial and local fishing tournaments are held nearby. Like many of our northern communities recreational activities play an important role in promoting a healthy lifestyle. There are modern healthcare facilities, stores, an arena, cafes, bed & breakfasts, churches and government agencies.
