FIRST NATIONS AND MÉTIS EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Northern Lights Schools First Nations and Métis Education program is to provide a culturally affirming education program to address the academic, identity, and social development of each student.

INDIGENOUS WORLDVIEWS AND PEDAGOGY

Our First Nations & Métis Education Program will enhance and engage PreK-12 students, parents/caregivers, school staff and community in a process which:
 
  • Is developmental in nature;
  • Provides equitable opportunities for all students to participate in the First Nations and Métis Education Programming;
  • Develops student awareness in indigenous languages, culture and identity;
  • Programs that deliver holistic, lifelong and culturally responsive;
  • Comes from the teachings of the Elders and traditional knowledge keepers who reveal First Nations and Métis worldviews as valid ways of knowing and understanding the world;
  • Incorporates First Nations and Métis ways of knowing as historical and contemporary cultures that are rooted in First Nations and Métis Languages, and require the protection, revitalization, and retention of Indigenous languages in order to flourish and thrive.
