Uranium City, located at the northernmost part of Saskatchewan, was once a bustling mining community. On the north shore of Lake Athabaska, Uranium City now has a population of 200 people. The hospital, local services and airport are the main employers in the community. The townspeople still maintain a curling rink and ice rink and there are numerous community activities for such a small community. There are scheduled daily flights into the community from Stony Rapids.
Ben McIntyre School does not let its size limit its potential. There are approximately 15 students from Pre-Kindergarten to grade 9 with 2 teachers and 1 support staff. The building houses a community gym, "the best library in the school division", a clothing exchange depot, and several classrooms. The school has a literacy and numeracy orientation in a friendly, family atmosphere. The students are enthusiastic, cheerful and friendly and welcome community and visitors alike to share in their learning.
