English Language Arts is a Required Area of Study in Saskatchewan’s Core Curriculum. There are three K-12 Goals:

  • Comprehend & Respond (CR),
  • Compose and Create (CC), and
  • Assess and Reflect (AR).

The ELA curriculum document for each grade level provides the intended learning OUTCOMES that the students are expected to achieve by the end of the year. INDICATORS are included for what students should know, understand and be able to do in order to achieve the outcomes.

Click here for Gr. 1-12 Rubrics for ELA Outcomes

Unit plans should include outcomes from each goal (CR, CC, AR)

Go to http://www.curriculum.gov.sk.ca/ for the curriculum documents, resource lists and other support material.

The Northern Lights School Division has provided recommended Major Integrated Resources (MIRs) to each school to help teachers plan and deliver instruction.

The Major Integrated Resources are:

Grades 1-5: Collections or Cornerstones or Nelson Literacy

Grades 6-9: Sighlines/Resourcelines or Crossroads or Nelson Literacy

Grades 10-12: Crossroads 10 and iLit

Saskatchewan Reads is a companion document to the English Language Arts Grades 1, 2, and 3 curricula: Saskatchewan Reads
