GOALS/GUIDING PRINCIPLES

The First Nations & Métis Education Program is designed to engage PreK-12 students, parents and guardians, school staff and community in a process which:

  • Is developmental in nature;
  • Provides equitable opportunities for all students to participate in the First Nations and Métis Education Program;
  • Develops student awareness in aboriginal languages, culture and identity;
  • Program delivery is holistic, lifelong and culturally responsive;
  • Comes from the teachings of the Elders and traditional knowledge keepers who reveal First Nations and Métis worldviews as valid ways of knowing and understanding the world;
  • Incorporate First Nations and Métis ways of knowing as historical and contemporary cultures that are rooted in First Nations and Métis Languages, and require the protection, revitalization, and retention of Aboriginal languages in order to flourish and thrive.
